Cat Mail Co Package Handling
Master Cat Mail Co package handling — weighing, destination labels, fragile and heavy stickers, scanner checks, and decorative stamps.
The Handling Philosophy
Cat Mail Co treats every parcel as a physical object with specific handling requirements. The game never punishes you with timers, but incorrectly processed mail returns damaged and wastes your time. The philosophy is "every package tells you how it wants to be handled — but how you do it is up to you." Functional accuracy matters; creative expression through decorative stamps is optional but rewarding.
Mastering package handling is the single most impactful skill in Cat Mail Co. Every other system — progression, co-op roles, night mechanics, and story discovery — builds on your ability to weigh, label, stamp, and route parcels correctly.
Weighing Parcels
Place any parcel on the scale platform to read its weight tier. The display shows which postage stamp category applies. Enter stamp mode with F, navigate to weight stamps, and apply the matching tier. Getting weight wrong means the parcel fails validation and returns from its destination.
The Bulk Weighing upgrade (see Progression guide) streamlines this process significantly by reducing back-and-forth movement. Until then, keep the scale adjacent to your processing desk so you can weigh and stamp in a tight loop without crossing the entire office.
Destination Labels
Every parcel routes to a specific island destination. Check the map overlay inside stamp mode or examine the parcel's routing information to identify the correct destination label. Cat's Island handles local deliveries, while transit labels point to remote locations like Sunny Shores once unlocked through the Summer Room expansion.
Misrouted parcels bounce back damaged. Organize your storage with separate shelves for each destination so you can visually verify routing before loading the boat. Color-coded zones reduce errors during busy evening shipment preparation.
Fragile & Heavy Constraints
After unlocking the scanner, customer parcels may flag as fragile or heavy. Fragile packages cannot have other items stacked on top — store them on dedicated top-shelf spaces or isolated corners. Heavy parcels require heavy-duty stickers applied in stamp mode and careful physical placement due to their weight physics.
Only customer-handled parcels need scanner checks. Backlog mail from the boat typically requires weighing and destination labels only, though night packages may introduce additional constraints visible under moonlight. Cross-reference our Night Packages guide when evening handling rules activate.
Decorative Stamps & Bonuses
Beyond functional labels, Cat Mail Co offers a collection of decorative stamps that add personality to parcels. Each stamp placed correctly contributes to a stamp bonus multiplier that increases your per-package earnings. Experiment with different combinations — the game rewards creative expression without requiring it.
Decorative stamping becomes a meditative ritual during long sorting sessions. In co-op, designate one player as the "stamp artist" who adds decorative touches while others handle weighing and routing. This role division is covered in our Co-op Guide.
Efficient Processing Workflow
Adopt the "finish one, start next" rule — never leave a parcel half-processed. Partially labeled packages create confusion, especially in co-op where another player may move an incomplete parcel. Process each item through the complete cycle: pick up, weigh, stamp mode, apply all labels, place in correct storage zone.
Keep empty shelf space available at all times. A full office forces awkward stacking that damages fragile items and slows every subsequent task. Use our Postage Reference Tool until the full checklist becomes automatic.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I weigh packages in Cat Mail Co?
