Cat Mail Co Boat Loading
Cat Mail Co boat loading guide — captain requests, multi-route stacking, Port Windy vs Sunny Shores, physics rules, and why parcels return.
Evening Boat Operations
At dusk the customer counter closes and the boat captain arrives. Talk to him to learn which outgoing parcels he needs for the current route. Load packages onto the boat at your own pace — there is no countdown timer — then ring the dock bell when satisfied.
Patch Note #1 (July 11, 2026) expanded boat deck storage and extended the timer between captain dialogues, giving more room and breathing space during evening loading. See our Launch Updates page for full patch details.
Multi-Route Captain Schedules
Once Sunny Shores unlocks, the captain may service both Port Windy and Sunny Shores in a single shift. Mixed cargo requires visual grouping on the boat deck:
- Port Windy side: Blue or yellow stamp indicators grouped together
- Sunny Shores side: Green or pink regional stamps on the opposite deck area
Do not mix destinations randomly. Loading Port Windy parcels when the captain expects Sunny Shores — or vice versa — causes transit failure regardless of stamp count. Always verify regional text on stamp faces, not just color habit from early-game Port Windy mail.
Physics Stacking Rules
Parcels are physics objects on the boat. Incorrect stacking causes hidden structural damage between shifts:
- Heavy parcels: Bottom layer only — they crush anything beneath them
- Fragile parcels: Top layer only — nothing may rest above them
- Large standard boxes: Middle layers between heavy base and fragile top
- Cold parcels: Transfer from Cold Room at dusk only — see Cold Room guide
The red placement indicator warns when stacking violates physics rules. The boat cargo grid has a vertical height limit — if stacks grow too tall, the placement box flashes red and the ship cannot depart. A safe maximum is roughly three standard medium boxes or two slim parcels high.
Use the open dock lane as a pre-sort staging area. While carrying parcels, press Tab to quick-place items on targeted deck slots — see our Controls guide for movement and placement keys.
Clearing Backlog Mail
Early-game floor clutter often comes from pre-stamped backlog parcels waiting for export. Check stamps already fixed to these boxes — if they show Port Windy or Sunny Shores regional designs, they are cleared for immediate boat delivery. Loading backlog alongside daily customer parcels clears floor space and earns large progression chunks.
Prioritize backlog transit mail during captain visits to free workspace before new boat deliveries arrive the next morning. Our Walkthrough covers the first dusk sequence in detail.
Why Parcels Return
Returned mail is the game's primary feedback loop for mistakes. Common causes:
- Wrong destination stamps: Blue Port Windy stamps on Sunny Shores mail fails transit
- Incorrect weight tier: Scanner ring color must match stamp count (green 1, yellow 2, blue 4, purple 6)
- Missing constraint stickers: Fragile, heavy, or cold modifiers skipped after scanner detection
- Wrong captain route: Loading parcels for a destination the captain is not servicing this shift
Use our Postage Reference Tool as a pre-loading checklist until the workflow becomes automatic.

Frequently Asked Questions
When does the boat captain arrive?
At dusk after the customer counter closes. Talk to him, load parcels, ring the bell when ready.
Is there a boat capacity limit?
No timer or hard capacity limit. Load at your own pace before ringing the bell.
Can one boat trip serve multiple destinations?
Yes, once Sunny Shores unlocks. Group parcels by destination on opposite sides of the deck.
Why did my parcel return damaged?
Usually wrong destination stamp, incorrect weight tier, missing constraint sticker, or bad physics stacking.
